Air Suspension; Whether you want a low-rider, 48-inch swampers, or a smooth ride to soccer practice.

A 100-point vehicle rebuild is an exhaustive and immaculate restoration of all components. In the aviation world, it would be called a zero-hour rebuild. Marine haulouts vary, but a complete hull restoration would be called a total refit.

I have hands-on knowledge of all three. Professionally I was an aviation engineer and have built hundreds of aircraft over 30 years. I was then a marine engineer for 12 years, building high-end sailing yachts and training captains at sea. I have a hobby/passion for cars and have built several, but my favorite is a 4×4.

Suspension in any vehicle is a key component in our comfort and vehicle safety in given conditions. A truck designed for hauling 40 tons and your RAV4 or CRV have different needs. All original equipment manufacturers (OEM) make replaceable parts for when things eventually wear out.

Many vehicles are being fitted with air suspension systems to offer the utmost in programable ride height and firmness of the shock as your vehicle travels over bumps and holes. “Airbags” is an industry term. With the push of a button, your car can lower for easy entrance or rise for ascending rain or snow levels.

When professionals install your suspension, body styling, or lift kit, they will not miss important steering angle changes. Extended or drop arms are needed for the best steering angles when controlling your car at new heights.

With new wheel sizes and ride height changes, the fender tubs will be more visible and less sightly. After-market options can provide magnificent styling and a clean look. Speaking of a clean look, deleted door handles add refinement and long lines.

When making suspension changes, be sure you do not alter the performance characteristics of your vehicle, void the warranty, nullify insurance coverage, or weaken safety. Big wheels and tires can make a cosmetic style and ruin your handling, control, or breaking distance.

There’s another reason I like a 4×4. If I keep it off-road, I can do anything to it, and anything with it.

Our cars are expensive but an important means of fast transportation to work, in emergencies, and travel. Recent studies show that most of us only leave the city where we live in less than 10 days a year. Most days are during the 4th of July, Thanksgiving, and Christmas holidays. Be sure your ride is ready for the road.
